A bird in the hand or what the what?!?!

I know. It's been a little while since I posted. I transformed into an incubator of viral plague and all I've wanted to do is sleep. Stupid head cold. One of the downsides of working at a mission? You get sick ALL. THE. TIME. Think about it: You're around transients all of the time. It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

Speaking of, I met with the Director of Nursing at the Seattle CDC and found out during our meeting that something like 80% of the homeless population has Hepatitis C. So I'm pretty stoked that I don't share needles with anyone. Not that I have needles or would know what to do with them. Moving on...

Things have been pretty chaotic here. We're a week and a half away from the banquet, The rehabilitation program has been revamped into 8 months instead of 12, my favorite coworker put in her notice and one of our new program residents overdosed. What I'm trying to say is, it's been a real hoot.

*that was sarcasm for those who struggle with tone of voice*

I'll be honest with you: it's been tough lately. Sometimes I really miss my cushy corporate job with the personal gym and showers, incredible Christmas gifts and bonus and boss who couldn't be any cooler.

But those are all just things. Nice things, don't get me wrong. It's important to remember the difference I'm making in the lives of others and the difference this has made in my own life. I thought I understood work ethic. Then I came here. Doing the job of an entire Marketing department quickly raised the bar for me.

When I first started here the office manager said, "You are here for a time and a season and we're grateful to have you."

She's right. I am here for a reason.

We all are.
